The Djinn Lounge Chair by Olivier Mourgue is iconic for its fluid, organic form—a design that seems to defy gravity even when grounded. I studied its sculptural curves and the way fabric wraps seamlessly around its structure. This exploration led to a concept: remove the chair from any physical context and let it exist as pure form in motion, surrounded by weightless fabric that echoes its flowing lines.
The visual language centered on weightlessness and elegance. I designed a minimal, abstract space where the chair becomes the focal point—no distractions, only form and movement. Fabric was choreographed to interact with the chair organically, creating dynamic compositions that shift between tension and release. Lighting was sculpted to emphasize contours and material texture, while the color palette remained restrained to let the design speak.
The chair model was built with attention to its iconic silhouette and fabric details. Cloth simulation brought the surrounding fabric to life—draping, flowing, and reacting to invisible forces in zero gravity. Multiple simulation passes refined the movement until it felt natural yet cinematic. Camera paths were blocked to follow the motion rhythmically, framing each moment as the composition evolved through space.
Animation was edited to music, with cuts and transitions timed to sonic cues. The rhythm guided pacing—slow, contemplative movements punctuated by dynamic shifts. Rendering balanced realism with atmospheric mood, using depth and motion blur to enhance the sense of floating through space. The final piece functions as both a design showcase and a short motion study—form, fabric, and sound in dialogue.
